One of the largest ……. the Giant Cone-headed Mantid

This large mantid has a body length of up to 85 mm. It is a voracious predator that inhabits low vegetation. Distributed throughout the coastal region of SA from Saldanha Bay through to the hinterland of Limpopo Province. This one was photographed in the grasslands of Chintsa West (close to East London).
