Ever seen a whale ear bone?

The Mace family from Hamburg are thanked for donating a well bleached specimen to the museum. The odd shaped bone has been identified as a typanic bullae from a whale. In a telephone call to Mrs. Tracy Mace it was noted that she was happily surprised that the specimen was from a whale. Hamburg is a coastal village west of East London (SA) and this is a first record of this nature from the area.

Below are pics of the ear bone.
