The Cuckoo and the Robin

This past weekend (10th February 2013) a juvenile Redchested Cuckoo was noted anxiously calling for food – determined and persistent, it continued to break the silence in the sleepy village of Rhodes (Eastern Cape).

The following day revealed the parent of this large youngster ….. a busy Cape Robin. The poor robin worked hard to keep the cuckoo fed. Fortunately a photograph captured both birds in a flurry just after a feeding session.

The picture below shows the Cape Robin Cossypha caffra getting ready to fly off to find more food for the hungry juvenile Redchested Cuckoo Cuculus solitarius.
