Whitefronted Bee-eater update ….

Dr Phil Whittington, East London Museum ornithologist, adds the following comments to the bee-eater sighting in the Western Cape:

‘This is well outside of the bird’s published range. This species is showing some signs of a range expansion. Birds were reported in the Western Cape near Wilderness and along the Swart River near Prince Albert in 2007. To my knowledge, the birds in the Calitzdorp area were first reported in June 2011 and they have been at the Riverview Cottages since at least November 2012. There was also one in Plettenberg Bay in July 2012’.
